The answer is No!
You can’t directly change the core username part of your Gmail address.
Whhhhyyyyy?
Because it acts like your unique ID for your Google account.
There are a couple of workarounds that might be helpful though:
Use Email Forwarding
I’ve already covered that here: How to Change Gmail Address in Under 1 Minute.
Change Your Display Name
- Open Gmail in a web browser and click the gear-like Settings icon.
- Select ‘See all settings‘ and go to the ‘Accounts and Import‘ tab.
- Under ‘Send mail as‘, find the email address you want to update and click ‘Edit info‘.
- Enter your preferred display name, ensure the radio button is selected, and click ‘Save changes‘.
Your new display name will now appear when sending emails.
Use an Alias
- Go to Settings (gear icon), Choose ‘See all settings‘.
- Navigate to the ‘Accounts and Import‘ tab.
- In the ‘Send mail as‘ section, click ‘Add another email address‘.
- Enter your desired display name and the email address you want to connect.
- Verify ownership and save your changes.
